Leadbeater’s Possum zone 1B logging
Logging has commenced in Zone 1B Leadbeater’s habitat on approximately the 7/3/2011 in coupe 348-520-0002
DSE were first notified on the 15/3/2012 logging has continued till 1/4/2012.
On the 22/3/2012 VicForests provided a survey “Alleged Harvesting of Leadbeater’s Habitat Zones in 348-520-0002 Preliminary Investigation report” stating:
“Following VicForests receiving information from DSE in regards to the alleged habitat on the coupe, VicForests undertook an investigation as per standard procedures. The investigation confirmed that the area subject to the allegations did not contain Leadbeater’s Possum Zone 1A or Zone 1B.”
Based on the attached survey VicForests have therefore failed to identify the Zone 1B habitat
This indicates that VicForests are logging the Zone 1B habitat identified in our assessment.

Secret export of sawlogs destroys native forests, betrays Victorian communities
It is not illegal to log Native Forests in Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales, or Western Australia and since there is no demand here in Australia whole logs are being shipped to China.
Thousands of tonnes of high-quality sawlogs from Victoria’s bushfire-devastated Central Highlands forests (near Healesville) are being secretly shipped to China, against state government policy, The Wilderness Society has revealed.
“Whole sawlogs have never been exported from Victoria before, the practice has always been banned to protect Australian jobs in the local timber industry” said The Wilderness Society’s Victorian Campaigns Manager Richard Hughes. Read More

Unlawful Stream Logging by VicForests Contractors in Toolangi
When laws ain't quite laws?
VicForests has avoided legal indictment again, this time for allowing its contractors to dump logs in streams. The incident was investigated by DSE in an audit of operations last year and found VicForests contractor was liable for work suspension under the Sustainable Forests (Timber Harvesting) Regulations 2006 . When VicForests were told by the DSE to award penalty points to their contractor, VicForest simply disagreed and claimed that “VicForests applies its penalties via contracts where it is warranted. We do not believe any deliberate conduct has occurred and do not believe it would be prudent to penalise the contractor in this instance.”.
