VicForests Review by the Department of Treasury and Finance 2010 instead of the Auditor-General

The Victorian Auditor-General will no longer conduct an audit of VicForests this year as per its 2009/10 plan.  This is unfortunate and some would say it shows that the government does not seem to take independent audit of VicForests seriously.  The Auditor-General confirms that its own audit of VicForests will now occur in 2012-13 due to the Department of Finance and Treasury conducting its own review of VicForests’ operations.  We wonder how independent this internal audit (Treasury is the shareholder of VicForests) will be.

The Department of Treasury and Finance  will lead the review, in close consultation with the Department of Primary Industries and other relevant Government departments.
